Preparing a template for sale
Preview reference: What “ready to sell” means: a published version, clean validation, and licensing you actually have.
The seller journey described here is not an available production workflow. Paid checkout, refunds, payouts, and installation or upgrade require release acceptance. The material below is a preview reference, not instructions to perform financial tests or enable background workers.
You don't upload files to the marketplace — you sell a version that already exists in your account's template library. Registering it as a seller artifact snapshots that exact version, with its cryptographic fingerprint, into your catalog. Buyers get precisely what you registered, forever; your later edits become new versions, never silent changes to what someone already bought.
The quality gate
The version you register must be published and pass its validation. For tenant pages, the current publication gate requires zero page-content errors and zero warnings. Resolve both before preparing the template, and review the template version's own validation report before registering it for sale.
The licensing rule — read this one twice
You may only sell work you have the right to sell: your own original designs, AI-generated work, or components from genuinely permissive (MIT-style) sources. Commercial template kits are prohibited — converting a purchased theme into platform blocks changes its format, not its license, and reselling it would infringe. This protects you as much as the marketplace: you are the seller of record.
What makes a template sell
- Complete beats pretty — templates ship with pages, menus, and user types; a buyer should have a working product minutes after install, not a homepage and a to-do list.
- Real content in the preview — lorem ipsum hides exactly the layout problems buyers will find on day one.
- Install notes that respect the buyer — each version carries release notes and install notes; say what's included, what to configure first, and what's intentionally left open.
