The DNS record, character for character
Nine domain problems out of ten are the DNS record: wrong host, wrong target, or an old conflicting record on the same name. Start there before anything else.
Checklist
- Compare the record at your DNS provider to what the console shows, character for character.
- Delete any pre-existing A or CNAME record on the same hostname — conflicts silently win.
- Allow for propagation: minutes usually, up to 48 hours worst case.
- Re-run Verify in the console after fixing.
Certificate warnings
Certificates issue automatically after verification passes. A browser warning during setup means propagation isn't done; a warning appearing on a previously working domain means the DNS record changed — check whether someone edited it.
