Cancel or close your account

What cancellation does, when it takes effect, and what happens to data.

Effect
End of current period
Data
Export first

Cancelling stops future renewals; your plan runs to the end of the paid period. Before cancellation takes effect, the account owner can create and verify a current export of customer records, files, AI data, operational history, and audit history. Builders should also export the versioned JSON and JSON Schema definitions for their pages and workflows.

Before closing the account

  • Run the owner-only data export and verify the included checksums.
  • Download the separate application-definition export for pages and workflows.
  • Confirm that customer-owned S3 restore bundles are current, when configured.
  • Record the credentials and external-service connections that must be recreated; secrets are deliberately not placed in exports.

The retention and deletion schedule after the paid period is the schedule stated in the customer's applicable service terms or enterprise agreement. Do not rely on a post-cancellation recovery window as a substitute for a verified backup.

Note

Exports can be used to build an independent replacement system. If BuildWithHQ ceases operation, the continuity plan also provides the managed API code and JSON interpreter needed to run exported application definitions in a cloud environment or virtual machine.
